2022 Survey for Waterloo Region-Wide
Municipal & Regional Elections
In 2022 we developed a survey shared with municipal and regional councillors related to the 50x30 and TransformWR commitments made, to request their views, level of support, and what they would do to help us collectively move forward on these commitments. We received many direct responses to our email survey, and our team also spoke with over 3 dozen candidates on the phone for those who wanted to more information. Here are the responses received.
In May-June 2021 all 8 municipal councils in Waterloo Region endorsed the TransformWR long-term strategy and short-term plan for community climate change mitigation of 50x30.
We Asked
All municipal and regional candidates three questions in relation to the commitment made by previous municipalities and the Region of Waterloo.
DO YOU
promise to do everything in your power to implement the TransformWR long-term strategy and short-term plan for community climate change mitigation?
DO YOU
support the Region of Waterloo and its 7 area municipalities' endorsement of the TransformWR Climate Action Strategy & the interim GHG reduction target of 50% by 2030?
WHAT ARE
some of the first actions you would take if elected, to ensure your municipality and the region is able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (as measured in 2010) by 50% by 2030 and 80% by 2050?

Candidate Videos on 50x30
50x30WR invited candidates who affirmed their support to create a short video on their plan to advocate and legislate for a climate action plan that serves their communities. The questions we asked them to address in their video were:
-
What are some of the first actions you would take if you were elected to ensure your Municipality and/or Region is able to reduce our GHG emissions by 50% by 2030?
-
What does local climate (social) justice mean to you in your municipality?
