Imagining a Just, Green Waterloo Region
On Nov 28th 2020, over a 2-hour visualization workshop, over 70 residents throughout the region were asked to imagine imperative changes to help us all move towards a more climate-friendly, socially just Waterloo Region. This is a brief summary of the ideas and alternate visions of our communities that came up during this workshop. Let's make more of these visions a reality!
We acknowledge that this work took place on the traditional territories of the Neutral, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Peoples. We are especially grateful to Land Back Camp organizers for opening this unique event with us in a good way, and guiding our work forwards. It is up to all of us to work towards upholding the original treaties of these lands, in solidarity with Indigenous land defenders and for justice.
A community report of the outcomes of this event, showcasing community visions for changes in all seven area municipalities was prepared by 50by30WR and student members of the BRIDGE Centre for Architecture + Design (University of Waterloo), who helped co-facilitate this event. Access this unique report here.
